From 7–9 September 2026, the BioTrainValue team participated in the International Energy and Environment Conference (IEEC 2026), organised by VSB – Technical University of Ostrava in Ostravice, Czech Republic.

The conference brought together researchers and industry representatives working on sustainable energy and environmental technologies, covering topics including biomass utilisation, thermochemical conversion, hydrogen technologies, energy systems and sustainable carbon management.

The BioTrainValue team contributed to the conference programme with research focused on biomass torrefaction, anaerobic digestion and the thermochemical conversion of olive stones:

  • Szymon Szufa – Biomass torrefaction – a new direction of using torrefied materials and its properties
  • Hilal Unyay – Torrefied Biomass and Anaerobic Digestion Synergy
  • Julia Osmańska – Comparative Analysis of Pyrolysis and Gasification of Olive Stones: Biochar, Syngas and Bio-oil Characterization (poster presentation)

The presentations highlighted different approaches to biomass valorisation and thermochemical processing, showcasing the potential of biomass resources for sustainable energy and material applications.

Participation in IEEC 2026 provided an opportunity to present the latest results of the BioTrainValue project, exchange knowledge with researchers from different countries and strengthen international collaboration in the field of sustainable biomass utilisation and energy technologies.

It was a great conference, and we would like to thank the organisers for the warm hospitality and for welcoming the BioTrainValue team. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
