ROLE IN THE PROJECT
WP3: Pyrolysis of biomass and biomass fractions; analysis of bio-based products (e.g., biochar, bio-oils and aqueous residuals produced by pyrolysis and torrefaction process using superheated steam; investigating their physical and chemical properties; extraction of high-value chemicals from bio-oils and assessment of their potential uses and market values; hosting of partners to carry out pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass and characterisation of reaction products.
staff members
Omar Mohammad
PhD candidate – participant
Omar Mohammad received his B.Eng. (2020) in Chemical Engineering from Aston University, Birmingham (UK) with placement year in Munich. During his placement at Technical University of Munich, Omar worked on developing heterogeneous catalyst for dehydrogenation of light alkanes. After graduation, Omar worked as a R&D assistant at Stoli Chem (2020). He participated in designing a continuous reactor technology and managed feasibility projects on catalytic hydrogenation. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) working on production of hydroxyaromatic carboxylic acids from waste lignin under the supervision of Dr Jude Onwudili.
Dr Jude Onwudili
Co- Investigator
Dr Jude Onwudili is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Aston University, Birmingham (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He obtained his PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering in 2005 at the University of Leeds (UK), where he held several research and teaching positions before joining Aston. He is an expert in advanced thermo-catalytic processing of biomass and wastes and currently leads a Sustainable Fuels and Chemicals (SFC) Group within Aston’s Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI). He has published over 100 academic papers, with nearly 5000 citations and an h-index of 40.
