BioTrainValue at EuroDrying 2023: Drying Woody Biomass for Superheated Steam Torrefaction

BioTrainValue was represented at the 8th European Drying Conference (EuroDrying 2023), held in Łódź, Poland, from 4 to 7 July 2023.
During the conference, Szymon Szufa presented a poster entitled “Drying woody biomass in air atmosphere using ‘rolling-bed’ pilot scale dryer as pre-process for superheated steam torrefaction process – kinetics and efficiency.”
The research focused on drying woody biomass using a pilot-scale rolling-bed dryer as a pre-treatment step before superheated steam torrefaction. The study examined the drying process, including its kinetics and efficiency, highlighting the importance of effective moisture removal in preparing biomass for subsequent thermochemical conversion.
The work reflects BioTrainValue’s broader research objectives: advancing biomass valorisation technologies, improving process efficiency, and supporting the development of integrated pathways for sustainable energy and valuable products.
Participation in EuroDrying 2023 provided an opportunity to share research findings with the international drying community and exchange knowledge on biomass processing technologies.
